Families in Hitchin can once again explore the inside of the human body as the popular 'Blood and Bone' exhibition returns to North Herts Museum this weekend.

The free interactive exhibition opens on Saturday 4 July and runs until 20 September, transforming the museum into a giant walk-through human body featuring enormous inflatable sculptures inspired by cells, bones and organs.

Originally staged in 2019 as the first-ever exhibition at North Herts Museum, 'Blood and Bone' attracted thousands of visitors. Its return also marks the museum's seventh birthday.

Created by artists Space Cadets Air Design, the exhibition features immersive inflatable installations that visitors can crawl through, touch and listen to. Giant breathing tunnels, sensory caves and larger-than-life structures recreate parts of the human body, combining textures, sound and interactive play to bring biology to life.

Designed with families in mind, the exhibition encourages children and adults alike to discover how the human body works through hands-on exploration.

Councillor Tamsin Thomas, North Herts Council's Executive Member for Enterprise, said: "The 'Blood and Bone' exhibition offers a fascinating, hands-on look at the wonders of human biology in a way that captures our collective imagination.

"It is a fantastic, free experience that beautifully blends science, art and play. Following its incredibly popular run in 2019, we look forward to welcoming families and curious minds of all ages back to discover the spectacular world that exists inside all of us."

North Herts Museum, on Brand Street in Hitchin, is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30am to 4.30pm and Sunday from 11am to 3pm. Admission to both the museum and the exhibition is free.

The museum also has an on-site café serving drinks, snacks and light meals, making it an ideal destination for a family day out during the summer holidays.
