Visitors to the fireworks at the Priory on Saturday (1st November) complained in their droves

Visit Hitchin, who promote events around Hitchin but were not responsible for it, released a statement saying that they were "very sad and disappointed to see all of these experiences and comments".

Meanwhile the Priory also issued a statement saying they were "not involved in this event" and that the "whole thing is completely out of our hands".

One visitor to the fireworks told Hitchin Nub News that the event was a "joke" with "3-minutes of fireworks, overpriced food and rides".

Other angry ticket holders took to Facebook to describe the event as "shocking!!!! No music no countdown. Very poor!!!! Left with very disappointed children and adults!!! Shame on the priory!!!"

The Festivals Group UK, apparently those responsible for the event, have been approached for comment although several Hitchinites report being blocked by them on social after raising complaints.
