In celebration of Samaritans Awareness Day volunteers from North Herts and Stevenage (Hitchin) branch spent time at Letchworth and Knebworth train stations, meeting with commuters, chatting with the general public and national rail employees and promoting the service.

Their attendance wasn't just about handing out information but being present, starting conversations and reminding people they are not alone. A smile, a friendly greeting or taking time to acknowledge another person may seem like a small gesture but it can have a lasting impact, as its impossible to truly know what challenges someone may be facing.

Speaking about the experience, volunteer Jo said: "It was encouraging to talk to several people who stopped to ask about becoming Samaritans volunteers. We are always looking for more volunteers to join us and it was heartwarming to talk to people interested in giving their time to support us. This morning was about having a visible presence in the community - even the smallest acts of kindness can make a real difference - a simple smile could make someone's day."
