Record Store Day: David's Music gears up for event as list of releases published!

By Layth Yousif 8th Apr 2021

A popular music shop in north Herts is gearing up for Record Store day this summer.

More than 500 exclusive vinyl records will be issued for the eagerly awaited event, which is taking place over two days (12 June and 17 July) due to the Covid crisis.

Madness, Prince, Amy Winehouse, Bjork, Belle & Sebastian, The Clash and the Rolling Stones are among the artists whose rare and unheard music is set to be released to music lovers for Record Store Day 2021.

David's Music is one of the record stores that will be taking part in the event.

Posting on their official Instagram page they wrote: "The official Record Store Day release list is now live!

"Let us know which of the special and exclusive releases you're most excited for!"

With vinyl sales hitting a three-decade high of 4.8 million, this summer's list will include a little-known Prince acoustic album as well as Fun Lovin' Criminals, Scooby Snacks, 25th anniversary orange vinyl and two live discs by The Police.

Started in 2007, Record Store Day has grown to become one of the biggest events in the music calendar, with many independent record stores marking their highest sales of the year.

Previous events focussed on concerts and gatherings at stores, which saw large queues of fans outside record shops as vinyl lovers vyed to get their hands on rare, limited-edition releases.

Due to the pandemic, however the event has been split into two "drops" to allow for social distancing.

David's added on their website: "Record Store Day is the annual event which celebrates the unique culture of independent record shops and the art of vinyl.

"The event shines a light on the hard-working music lovers behind the counter who play a key role in championing local music and talent."
