Residents in Hitchin may have recently encountered something a little out of the ordinary, thanks to a magician who has been performing impromptu tricks around the town.

Magician Joseph Knight has been showcasing his close-up magic across locations in and around London, including Hitchin, where members of the public have been treated to unexpected performances using little more than a deck of cards.

Knight, who has been practising and performing magic for several years, specialises in spontaneous street and close-up performances, bringing moments of surprise to everyday settings. His recent appearances have included locations in Twickenham, Camden and Hitchin.

According to Knight, the reactions from spectators have been one of the most rewarding aspects of his work.

He said: "I've always been fascinated with the resonance that the art has and the multiple layers of things. It is symbolic of and the long awaiting depth to be unveiled in the matter."

The magician says his performances are designed to interrupt daily routines and create memorable experiences that leave audiences questioning what they have just witnessed.

One recent encounter saw Knight perform for someone he had previously amazed with a trick. The spectator told him they had spent months telling friends and family about the earlier experience, only to be met with disbelief.

Knight has also recently been spotted performing for crowds on a pub rooftop in Camden, as well as for passers-by in town centres and public spaces.

While large-scale stage magic may be familiar to many, Knight's speciality lies in intimate, close-up performances where tricks take place just inches from the audience's eyes.

The magician hopes his appearances in Hitchin and elsewhere will help reintroduce a sense of wonder and surprise into everyday life.
