Broadway Cinema is preparing to celebrate a major milestone this month as it marks 90 years at the heart of the local community.

The Letchworth venue will commemorate nine decades of cinema, culture and entertainment with a special plaque unveiling on Saturday, August 29.

The ceremony will take place at 1pm and will bring together special guests, audiences and friends of Broadway to celebrate the cinema's history and the generations of people who have supported it.

Among the guests will be Katharina Kubrick, an acclaimed art director and creative professional who is also the daughter of legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick.

She will be joined by award-winning documentary director and producer Natalie Hewit, whose work has appeared on major UK and international broadcasters.

Hewit directed the acclaimed Antarctic documentary Endurance, which won an Emmy Award as well as Best Documentary at the Broadcast Digital Awards.

Organisers say the plaque unveiling will recognise the generations of audiences, filmmakers, creatives, staff and members of the community who have helped make Broadway an important part of local life since it opened 90 years ago.

The anniversary celebrations will also include a special offer for people looking to join the cinema's MyBroadway GOLD membership scheme.

A 'Golden Hour' will run from 12.30pm until 1.30pm on August 29, with anyone signing up to GOLD in person during that period receiving an additional free cinema ticket on top of the usual membership benefits.

Broadway said: "Whether you're a lifelong Broadway regular or discovering the cinema for the first time, everyone is invited to come along, celebrate 90 years of Broadway and be part of this special milestone."

The commemorative plaque will be unveiled at Broadway Cinema at 1pm on Saturday, August 29.
