Hitchin: Tesco to ban shoppers who don't wear a face mask to stop Covid spreading

Tesco has joined Sainsbury's and Morrison's by announcing today (Tuesday) shoppers without a face covering will not be allowed to enter the premises.

The supermarket giant has a Metro store in Hitchin near to the railway station and rules regarding mask wearing will now apply as Covid restrictions tighten amid rising coronavirus cases.

Tesco has echoed Sainsbury's and says it will also be using 'additional security'.

Stores nationwide are also encouraging people to shop alone to cut down the risk of spreading the virus.

A Tesco statement said: "We won't let anyone into stores not wearing a face covering, unless they are exempt.

"We are also asking customers to shop alone, unless they're a carer or with children.

"We will have additional security to help manage this".
