The New Heart of Stondon: First Look at Mount Pleasant View’s Six-Figure Relaunch
By Sam & Carla 23rd Feb 2026
The team behind Mount Pleasant View are celebrating a triumphant reopening, following a six-figure refurbishment and a completely sold-out Valentine's debut.
The site of the former Lower Stondon golf club has been completely reimagined following a full internal refurbishment and redesign. Designed, built and project-managed by Hitchin firm Colin Hill in association with Michael Collins Architects, the transformation marks a firm shift away from the bunkers. With the golf course now closed, the building has been repurposed into a relaxed bistro and high-quality events venue, with a family-friendly hospitality experience designed to showcase the area's panoramic views.
This total refurbishment serves as a bold new era for the venue, representing a significant commitment to its future. Now under its third generation of family ownership, the business has been entirely transformed to ensure it remains a central destination for the community for decades to come.
The Transformation
Visitors will find a total reimagining of the interior. The investment has introduced a new architectural layout, a bespoke bar, and high-end decor designed to complement the building's striking structure and its most famous asset: the views from the windows & veranda across the Bedfordshire countryside.
"We wanted to create something that feels both comforting and sophisticated," says owner Carla. "It's about high-quality food and a relaxing atmosphere where you can stay for a three-course Sunday lunch or just pop in for coffee and cake. This isn't just a fresh coat of paint! It has been exciting watching the change happen, and we can't wait to welcome our customers back."
Locally Sourced, Community Focused
The new restaurant is home to a fantastic menu, with all cakes and desserts homemade, and with nearly all dishes being exclusively made in-house using locally sourced produce. Their local suppliers include Woburn Country Foods (Haynes), AB Fruits (Bedford), Abbey Cheese (Leighton Buzzard), and Stickleback Fish (Hatfield).
The venue remains one of the few in the area to offer a full breakfast service seven days a week, alongside its highly-regarded Sunday roasts and a dedicated range of vegan and gluten-free options.
In addition to the local construction team, the relaunch was a home-ground effort both physically and digitally. The family partnered with Meppershall-based Iris Web Media to develop the new brand identity and a bespoke website. The venue's dramatic transition was captured by local brand photographer Becky Kerr, whose high-resolution imagery now showcases the completed project.
With the launch a proven success, Mount Pleasant View is now looking ahead to the warmer months. As part of the extensive renovation, a brand-new patio is being installed, providing the community with an expansive beer garden perfectly positioned to make the most of the summer.
Bookings are now open for Mother's Day and beyond via mountpleasantview.co.uk or by calling 01462 850999.
