Tier 2: Hitchin MP Bim Afolami shares his view with Nub News on new government measures

Hitchin MP Bim Afolami has given his view on new government measures which have placed our town and county into Tier 2 restrictions.

With health secretary Matt Hancock announcing that the whole of Hertfordshire has been put in Tier 2 restrictions to help prevent the spread of Covid, our town's parliamentarian has been speaking to Nub News about the government decision.

Under the system there will be three tiers of alert:

Tier 1 - Medium alert level. It will feature current rules such as the rule of six and 10pm closing time for pub

Tier 2 - High alert level - People will not be able to mix with other households indoors

Tier 3 - Very high alert level - Household mixing banned. All pubs and bars will be closed

Speaking to Nub News Mr Afolami said: "As I have made clear over the past few months, I believe that a localised, regional method is most the correct and fair approach.

"I will be working with local health officials and residents to try and get us back to Tier 1 - our businesses need it, and our society needs it.

"Thanks to the shared sacrifice of everyone in recent weeks, there is an improving picture across the majority of Hertfordshire with infection rates falling by 3.4 per cent across the county and dropping by 8.4 per cent in North Hertfordshire."
