It's been a hugely successful year for sporting events in Hitchin and the Hitchin Hares team who help organise many of them.

The Hitchin 10km back in May saw a record number of entrants, breaking the 1000 barrier for the first time.

The event has been growing year on year and is fast becoming an event that people from far are now coming to.

It also saw the introduction of the children's golden mile, which was greatly attended and will be centre stage for 2025, with it taking place before the main event.

The Hitchin triathlons also saw a huge turnout and the children's version is growing too, again with record numbers.

The Hitchin half marathon – formerly known as the "Hitchin Hard Half" - also picked up after the Covid years and is seeing number steadily rise again and next year features the 10-mile option for the first time too.

The town centre 5km also saw a record turn out with over 450 people racing around the iconic and historic centre of Hitchin.

Hitchin Nub News caught up with Jake Amos, the "Daddy Hare", who founded the club back in 2008.

"The biggest aspect is seeing faces old and new, taking part and being part of something positive for the community of Hitchin, and welcoming new people to our town so that they see what Hitchin has to offer, its beauty and friendliness and the hope that they will come back again, whether it be to take part in the events or to come and visit".

"For 2025 we hope to grow the events and add more fun to them and more options, making them bigger and better, and for that we rely heavily on the great friends and family who come to support the events, whether it be to take part, support, or the volunteer to help make the events. Without them there are no events".

Hitchin Running Club, better known by their nickname the Hares, have been pounding the local trails since 2008.

They have multiple groups for all abilities and club sessions feature twice a week. They also feature themed club sessions too, so it's not all serious! To come along drop Jake an email
