Police are appealing for witnesses after two men suffered serious head injuries during an assault in Hitchin town centre.

An altercation took place in Market Square at around 2.20am on Sunday, July 26.

Two men were assaulted during the incident, both sustaining serious injuries to their heads.

Following enquiries, two men from Bedfordshire, aged 24 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. They have since been released on police bail while investigations continue.

Detective Constable Kate Rickard, from Hertfordshire Constabulary's Criminal Investigation Department, said: "Our enquiries are ongoing and I am urging anyone with information to please come forward.
