A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Hitchin.

Police were called to Armour Rise at around 3.15pm on Tuesday, October 6, following a report raising concerns for someone's welfare.

Officers attended and found a woman, aged in her 70s, with serious injuries.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed that a 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Police said it is believed the man and woman were known to each other.

Officers will remain in the Armour Rise area while enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the woman's death continue.
