Emergency services were called to a residential address in Milestone Road, Hitchin, on Sunday, December 14, following reports of an ongoing medical emergency.
Police attended the scene at around 4.30pm after being alerted by colleagues from the East of England Ambulance Service.
Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, a man in his 60s was sadly pronounced dead at the address.
Hertfordshire Constabulary has confirmed that the man's death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.
During enquiries at the property, officers discovered a number of World War One and World War Two shells inside the home.
Specialist officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team were called to the scene and worked alongside police to safely remove the items. Police confirmed that the shells were dealt with appropriately and did not pose any risk to the wider public.
Residents in the area may have noticed an increased emergency service presence while the situation was being safely resolved.
