A nurse from Garden House Hospice Care has spoken about her job after becoming one of the first to administer the Covid jab at a Hitchin care home.

Maddie Kinnar, who along with her colleague Tanya Catton administered the first dose of the Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine to 48 residents and 30 staff at Elmside Residential and Dementia Care Home in our town this month.

Pub giant JD Wetherspoon says it expects its pubs in Hitchin and elsewhere to remain shut until April as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

The company reports 'zero' sales in 2021 so far, as all of its 872 pubs have remained closed since 31 December including the Angel Vaults Inn on Sun Street in the centre of town.

Sophie Bichener has raised just shy of an incredible £2,500

A kind-hearted Hitchin woman ran through the pain barrier to raise nearly £2,500 to buy toys for children at Stevenage's Lister Hospital.

Prior to completing her successful fundraiser, sporty Sophie Bichener had practically given up running due to an old injury - but she was determined to complete her charity challenge of running 5k a day to reach her target of 150km.
