Today is known as Blue Monday, a day that has been given the rather gloomy name thanks to a mixture of post-Christmas blues, the cold dark winter nights and unpaid bills arriving on your doorstep.

Depending on who you believe, it was academics - or a canny PR company at some time in the last decade - who identified the third Monday of January as the most depressing day of the year - with 2021's edition even harder for many, as the pandemic continues to impact our lives.

Herts County Council set to consult on waste plans

Hertfordshire County Council is consulting on its draft Waste Local Plan, to ensure our area has the right mix of facilities to deal with the waste produced by residents and businesses.

Our county including Hitchin and north Herts is projected to produce 4.4 million tonnes of waste a year by 2033 – an increase of almost 1m tonnes a year from current levels.
