A lively performance from Mark Burke's Hitchin Town saw them shoot down Alvechurch 5-1.

Read on to find out which Canaries players impressed.

Hitchin Town FC PLAYER RATINGS

Charles Horlock: 7 - A quiet game from the vocal keeper as befits an excellent attacking performance from his colleagues further forward but always alert. Good distribution from the Canaries shot-stopper.

2 Jack Green: 7 - Solid and committed.

3 Layne Eadie: 7.5 - Emphatically slotted home his spot-kick to put the Canaries ahead early in a great start to the new league season. Was Alvechurch's keeper Jonathan Brown to keen to commit himself? Possibly, but Eadie and his teammates cared not a jot.

4 Ryan Smith: 7 - An influential presence.

5 Lawrie Marsh: 7 - Another excellent performance

6 Ben Walster: 7.5 - Solid and uncompromising. A good organiser who marshalled the backline impressively.

7 Rio Dasilva: 8 - An energetic performance from Hitchin's impressive No7 down the right flank who always threatened.

8 Jhai Dhillon: 7.5 - The highly-rated former Stevenage academy prospect was an intelligent presence throughout. Fouled for the early penalty during one of his many forays deep in Alvechurch territory. Deserved his ovation after being replaced by Marsh midway through the second half.

9 Callum Stead: 8 - The in-form striker deserved his brace and was a lively presence all game. Clinical finish for his first from the former Welwyn GC man who carried his excellent pre-season form into the league opener – even if his second strike did not appear to be intentional. No matter, he fully deserved his ovation on being subbed for Gouldbourne late on to great acclaim from the 425 fans present.

10 Luke Brown: 7.5 - Not as influential as he would have liked given his talents but a constant danger nonetheless as the No10 never allowed Alvechurch's backline to settle.

11 Joshua Coldicott-Stevens: 7.5 - A constant threat throughout as the Canaries put Alvechurch to the sword.

Substitutes

Alexander Marsh: 7 - On for Dhillon midway through the second half

Marcus Goldbourne: 7.5 - Replaced two goal hero Stead late on and slotted home with an excellent finish to join the list of goalscorers

Manager Mark Burke: 10 out 10: Well-respected Burkey hasn't put a foot wrong this summer. Long may it continue as he builds a team to impress, during what we all hope will be a successful season.
