Exclusive: Nub News understands highly-rated Luke Garrard is emerging as a serious contender for the vacant Stevenage job.
The news comes following Garrard's mutual decision with Boreham Wood to end his tenure at Meadow Park after Saturday's National League survival game versus Ebbsfleet United.
While The Wood have struggled this season, Garrard's stock still remains incredibly high - and would be an excellent fit to take over the Boro hotseat following the shock departure of Steve Evans earlier this week.
As Nub News reported, Evans, 61, left for former club Rotherham in the wake of the Millers' relegation from the Championship back to League One earlier this month.
Evans left Broadhall Way after the South Yorkshire side agreed to pay a substantial sum to release Evans from a new deal that was only signed in February - with Garrard attracting attention from suitors Stevenage.
The 38-year-old Garrard led his Boreham Wood side to the fifth round of the FA Cup two seasons ago - where they faced Everton after a fourth round victory at Bournemouth, in which Stevenage defender Kane Smith featured for The Wood.
Garrard also had the National League minnows just 90 minutes away from promotion to the Football League in the 2017-18 season, but they were defeated by Tranmere Rovers in the Play-Off final.
Garrard's side also pushed Notts County all the way in last year's Play-Offs before the Magpies joined Wrexham in League 2.
Garrard's playing career also saw him win the National League South division in 2008-09 with AFC Wimbledon, after starting his career with Tottenham Hotspur in the youth ranks.
Stevenage are monitoring the situation, while gearing up to travel to Oxford United on Friday evening - with the club keen to get a new man and his team in place as soon as possible after the season ends, in a bid to prepare a squad that can once again compete in League One.
Boreham Wood said in a statement earlier this month: "It is with deep regret, and huge sadness, that Boreham Wood Football Club can announce we will part company with our long-serving manager Luke Garrard after our last game of this season against Ebbsfleet United on Saturday, April 20."
