Player Ratings: Stevenage 1-0 Wycombe

Stevenage FC captain Carl Piergianni fired home a first half winner as Boro boosted their League One play-off hopes with a much-needed win over 10-man Wycombe Wanderers at the Lamex on Saturday.

Steve Evans' first win in five matches moved them within one point of sixth-placed Oxford with two games in hand - with the home side aided by a red card for Chairboys goalkeeper Max Stryjek early in the second half.

Find out who impressed with our Nub News Player Ratings:

Taye Ashby-Hammond 7/10

Out quickly to shut off over the top balls from Wycombe midfield. Commanding, played out through defence, comfortable on the ball. Good saves from both Lubala and Kodua shots in the first half. Not much to deal with in the second half.

Dan Butler 6.5/10

Caught out in the first half due to Kodua pace and good through balls from Leahy.  Lovely crosses from both open play and corners. The second half was much better, kept the RW quiet.

Captain Fantastic defended brilliantly as usual and kept the Wycombe frontline quiet all game. Lovely bottom corner finish, Finished it like a striker.  Ultimately won us the game

Dan Sweeney 8/10

Comfortable days work, Kept Wycombe quiet, Great on the ball, glides with ball through midfield.  Lovely take down and assist to set up the only goal

Fairly quiet game, didn't have much to do. Worked well with midfield to get Stevenage up the pitch

Alex Macdonald 7/10

Started his first game in a while, grew into the game through the 90 minutes. Lovely one touch football with both defenders and attackers. Played the role of getting the ball through midfield and into the attackers

Nick Freeman 7.5/10

Started at right wing-back but moved into midfield after 15 minutes due to the overload that Wycombe played. Pressed the players on the ball which allowed for Stevenage to grow into the game

Jake Forster-Caskey 8/10

Silky on the ball, twisted and turned through Wycombe defence, Turned defence into attack. Lovely crosses into box which caused danger for the opposition defence.

Played the deeper midfield role to cover the Stevenage backline, assured that the Boro were safe at the back. Controlled the middle of the park the whole game, didn't allow for Wycombe's dangermen to get foot in the game.

Jordan Roberts 7.5/10

Started in a different role alongside Hemmings up front instead of on the right wing. Worked his socks off once again, deserved a goal

Kane Hemmings 6.5/10

Had the better of Wycombe's No6 Ryan Tafazolli who appeared to either be carrying a knock or either still injured from a challenge onhim earlier in the game. Should have scored on the 64th minute mark but was denied by a great save from Franco Ravizzoli

Substitutes

Ben Thompson Finley Burns, Vadaine Oliver

Didn't have enough time to have any real impact on the game
