Stevenage beat Hitchin Town 1-0 to win the north Herts derby at Top Field on Saturday afternoon.
A cracking long range effort from former Canary loanee Harry Draper in the 34th minute proved to be the winner during a hard fought clash.
The home side battled throughout against the League Two side, with Josh Dasilva looking lively early on.
Hitchin captain, leader, legend Dan Webb offered solidity along the backline, supplemented by defensive colleague Sam Okoye-Ahaneku.
However, Boro's extra quality saw Canaries keeper Charlie Horlock pull off a number of succession of excellent saves from Elliot Osborne as well as last season's 11 goal top scorer Elliot List.
Boro boss Alex Revell fielded a completely different XI after the interval including Terrence Van Cooten, Charlie Carter and Arthur Read as the visitors aimed to give the majority of their squad a run-out on a balmy afternoon at Fishponds Road.
Revell's side threatened through the highly-rated Luther Wildin and Read but as the clock ticked down, the victors ultimately closed down the game in front of a bumper crowd of 761.
With the England vs italy Euro 2020 final looming large it was appropriate the excellent HTFC radio team played Sweet Caroline over the PA after referee Tom Danaher blew the final whistle on a committed game.
