Stevenage signed off the 2020-21 season in style after a hard fought 1-0 win at Scunthorpe United on Saturday.
A headed goal from Elliot List after Remeao Hutton's whipped cross on 59 minutes was enough to clinch the victory.
Romain Vincelot made his final appearance as a professional footballer after the 35-year-old Poitiers-born midfielder had earlier announced his retirement.
As the Frenchman replaced Jack Smith, club captan Scott Cuthbert handed the former Brighton and Coventry midfielder his armband in a sign of respect, as applause rang round an empty Glanford Park from Vincelot's teammates and Boro staff.
The result saw Alex Revell's side finish in 14th place in League Two with 60 points and a zero goal difference after completing the double over the Iron, following their 3-1 victory at the Lamex earlier this season.
Given the fact Stevenage were facing up to a likely relegation battle until much-improved form from the turn of the year onwards, Revell and his squad should be proud of their efforts in easing away from the dreaded drop zone.
And while Boro's 41 goals scored was beaten by every team in the division bar Southend and Grimsby, the two relegated sides, as well as equalled by Saturday's opponents Scunthorpe - who finished one place above the pair - Revell's team could boast the best defence apart from champions Cheltenham Town.
A statistic to be proud of in a challenging season as Vincelot's teammates gave him an emotional guard of honour after the final whistle.
