Hitchin MP Bim Afolami has categorically denied attending the controversial No10 party that has put the PM's behaviour during the pandemic under the spotlight once again.

Many voters up and down the country are in uproar after news emerged around 100 people were invited to a 'bring-your-own-booze' drinks party in the Downing Street garden in the first lockdown.

Witnesses say Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie were among about 30 people at the gathering on 20 May, 2020.

The news is sure to heap more pressure on Boris Johnson and his government, and by extension, Tory MPs around the country - including Hitchin's Parliamentarian, Bim Afolami.

However, speaking to Hitchin Nub News on Tuesday morning, Mr Afolami emphatically insisted he was not at the party.

When asked if he attended, Mr Afolami said: "No I did not. If any wrongdoing has taken place, then Sue Gray will find it and, if criminal, the police will make their inquiries."

No 10 says the gathering - and others that occurred under strict Covid restrictions - are subject to an independent probe by a top civil servant, Sue Gray.

The news comes after Hitchin Nub News broke the story that the Lib Dems crowned Sam Collins as Hitchin's Prospective Parliamentary candidate.

Mr Collins told Nub News that due to the growing sleaze under the Tories he and his party consider the Hitchin and Harpenden constituency as a marginal seat.
