Pupils from a Hitchin school have been paying their respects on Armistice Day by making poppies.

Students from Our Lady Catholic Primary School have been busy making poppies for their beautiful outdoor display.[.B]

Armistice Day always falls on November 11 and marks the agreement between the Allies and Germany in 1918 to cease fighting, declaring victory for the Allies in the First World War.

The school on Old Hale Way encouraged children to make a poppy that could also help recall the memory of someone close to them and their families that they may have lost.

Father Tom O'Brien from Our Lady Immaculate & St Andrew Church on Nightingale Road in Hitchin led the school's remembrance service, with the chaplaincy team ending with a prayer.

A spokesperson for the school told Hitchin Nub News: "Each child in the school made a poppy for our beautiful poppy field.

"Parents also sent in photos of family they and the children have lost to be remembered."
