By Layth Yousif 5th Dec 2020

Stevenage drew 0-0 with Southend United on the afternoon fans returned to the Lamex after ten months.

The result sees Alec Revell's side move out of the relegation places and into 22nd place, seven points clear of rock-bottom Southend.

Around 800 fans watched the League Two basement battle, spread among the new North Stand and the East Terrace.

Southend's Emile Acquah saw an early effort fly wide of the left upright from 20 yards before Brandon Goodship saw his drive tipped over the by Boro's on loan Chelsea goalkeeper Jamie Cumming.

From Tom Clifford's corner Richard Taylor headed wide from close range.

Boro's best change of the afternoon came five minutes after the interval when Tyrone Marsh struck the bar.

The visitors from Essex nearly snatched a victory late on, but substitute Terrell Egbri pulled his shot wide when well placed with moments remaining.

However, in truth, in an attritional match the excitement was more to be had prior to kick off with supporters' anticipation of being allowed back to Broadhall Way for the first time since February.
