Stevenage FC unveil new boss Paul Tisdale at the Lamex
Stevenage FC have unveiled new boss Paul Tisdale at the Lamex.
The 48-year-old manager spoke to the media at the ground on Monday morning, after the club officially confirmed his appointment on Sunday afternoon.
The former long-serving Exeter City boss will take charge of Boro for the first time on Tuesday evening, when Stevenage travel to Sutton United in the second round of the Papa John's Trophy, prior to a televised trip to Yeovil on Saturday in the second round of the FA Cup.
Speaking to Nub News, Tisdale outlined his ethos for the club.
"As a manager I think it's very important to understand the business that I work for," Tisdale explained, adding: "Every football club has it's own nuance and it's own dynamic and I think it's really important to understand what a football club is about.
"If you understand that, then you've got a chance of delivering properly.
"I also want to develop footballers. Develop the environment, develop the staff, develop the facilities. I want to be part of progress every day - not just the 11 players that play on a Saturday.
"I want to be part of developing something that means there is progress - and of course I don't forget to win games."
The experienced Tisdale has managed a total of 717 games in football, including twelve years as Grecians' boss, where he led the team to promotion to the EFL and promotion to League One, as well as League Two Play Off finals in 2017 and 2018.
Sitting with CEO Alex Tunbridge in the 1976 suite at Broadhall Way, Tisdale underlined what
"You can't just think about winning and forget everything else. There's no sustainability in that. But you do have to make sure you get results as a manager.
"I certainly have had a sense of how savvy the club has been for many years and what it's about, which is a good place to start.
"I understand how a dressing rooms, how players think. So that gives me a chance to build something day by day. And I have a fair bit of experience winning football matches to know what I need from them to win games.
"When it comes to players on the pitch, I want to see bright players, brave players, versatile players, players that can play different positions. Plenty of energy, flow, real energy and confidence on the pitch.
"There is no one way of playing, there is no magic key. I have to find ours here very quickly - and that will come down to the players that I have in the dressing room, the level of confidence we have and the opposition, but that's my job - to work that out pretty quickly."
