Valentine's Day took on a special glow this year as residents, families, and staff came together for a heart‑warming lunch celebrating love in all its forms. The care home's dining rooms were transformed into a cosy, romantic settings? complete with soft music, flowers, and tables dressed in shades of red and pink.

For many residents, the day was more than a date on the calendar — it was a chance to reconnect with loved ones, reminisce about cherished memories, and enjoy a beautifully prepared meal in good company. Laughter and conversation filled the room as families gathered around tables, sharing stories that spanned decades.

The kitchen team prepared a thoughtful Valentine's menu, offering comforting favourites alongside special touches like heart‑shaped desserts and sparkling drinks. Staff members moved between tables, ensuring everyone felt included and cared for, while also taking time to sit and chat with residents who didn't have visitors of their own.

One of the most touching moments came when couples who have been together for many years shared their stories — tales of romance, chance encounters, and lifelong partnerships that continue to inspire. Their presence reminded everyone that love doesn't fade with age; it deepens, strengthens, and becomes something truly remarkable.

Families expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate together in such a warm environment. Many commented on how meaningful it was to spend quality time with their loved ones, especially on a day dedicated to affection and connection.

Engagement Lead Eliana Ferraris said

"Events like this Valentine's lunch highlight the heart of the care home community — a place where love, companionship, and kindness are celebrated every day. And while Valentine's Day comes only once a year, the spirit of togetherness it brought will linger long after the decorations come down."

Milford Lodge is a 60 bed residential care home in Hitchin with a 18 bed dementia environment
