One of my favourite ever types of holiday is a safari and if you're also a wildlife lover, this is an absolute must, writes Liz Meineck.

I quite often choose my next trip based on the wildlife I'll be able to see.

Everyone's seen wild animals in a zoo or safari park and that is undoubtedly an amazing experience, but to see them in their natural habitat is just indescribable.

The very first sighting I had was on a trip to Kenya, when we saw a mummy elephant gently washing her baby from water spurting out of a burst pipe.

Honestly, I could have cried, it was just so moving and emotional to see these majestic animals close up. I've never forgotten that special moment and it gave me a passion for safaris of all kinds.

Since then, I've been on a few different safaris. One of my favourites was a leopard spotting trip to Yala National Park in Sri Lanka. Absolutely amazing and the country is well worth a visit purely for it's fabulous scenery, food and people, but the wildlife is the icing on the cake!

Another favourite was a tour of East Africa visiting Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. We had many incredible wildlife encounters, topped off with a trek into the mountains to have a close encounter with a family of gorillas. Seriously jaw dropping 'pinch me' moment. I kept think David Attenborough was going to pop up and start filming.

Africa is definitely a top choice for many reasons and offers a wide variety of safaris, from jungle to desert and of course the wide open African plains. Asia also has some wonderful safari options, such as searching for tigers in India, orang utans in Borneo or giant pandas in China. Then there's the USA and Canada for bear watching, the arctic for polar bears, seals and walruses, oh the possibilities are endless…

You could of course combine a safari with a city break such as Cape Town, or a beach holiday somewhere like Zanzibar, where you can sip cocktails and look back on your jaw dropping photos of the amazing wildlife you've seen – your social media will never have been so impressive! If this has whetted your appetite to try out a safari, take a peek at this great deal.
