Autumn arrives in Hitchin

By James Denselow 20th Oct 2024

Ahead of Halloween autumn colours are emerging across Hitchin with yellow, brown, red and gold leaves on the trees in our parks and across key locations in the town.

October is the month that sees trees drop most of their leaves, however the Weather Shop cites research that seems to suggest that over the last thirty years leaves have started to change colour and fall later in the year.

The National Trust has said that the wet and cool year to date means trees will hold onto their leaves for longer this autumn.

Wet leaves can be a big problem for motorists damaging car's paint leading to expensive repairs. The firm Liquid Tech has recommended avoiding "parking under trees if at all possible, especially if the vehicle will be left for a long time as leaves can accumulate quickly."
