Brave boss battling cancer awarded honour by colleagues after amazing work for Hitchin based business
A line manager battling cancer has put her own challenges to one side to take the lead on workplace initiatives while staying 'upbeat, positive and resilient'.
Tanya Carless's commitment to Hitchin-based Willmott Dixon has been rewarded with a company award after colleagues nominated her for being "incredibly supportive to the whole business".
The lead administrator coordinator for the construction and fit-out group took on extra responsibilities while fighting illness and juggling medical appointments.
Tanya, who hails from Stevenage, was given the Outstanding Behaviour in Exceptional Circumstances award at Willmott Dixon's regional annual Creating Excellence awards.
Chris Tredget, managing director for London and East, said: "Tanya has been amazing. Making changes to anyone's role can create a challenge for them, but she comes into the office every day with a smile on her face, ready to take on whatever is thrown at her.
"She has been incredibly supportive to the whole business and is always on hand to help anyone."
Colleagues who nominated Tanya spoke of her efforts to create a harmonious environment, especially when people were returning to the office after COVID.
She took the initiative to create a wellbeing space as well as organising company get-togethers.
"Tanya has been with us for six years and remains upbeat, positive and resilient in making our work environment a great place to be."
Willmott Dixon construction services across the East of England are based at Willmott Dixon House, 80 Wilbury Way. Each year Willmott Dixon employees are asked to nominate their colleagues with the winners being chosen by the London and East board of directors.
The winners, who received their trophies at an event at the Underglobe, London, go forward to the company's national Building on Better Awards in 2024.
