Update: A major road in Hitchin has been shut following a collision.

Bedford Road in Hitchin, near to the Priory School and the entrance to Oughtonhead Common, has been closed in both directions, following Hertfordshire Constabulary confirming the incident in Burford Way.

Herts police told Hitchin Nub News: "Officers were called at around just after 1155am today (Tuesday, March 22) following a road traffic collision in Burford Way, Hitchin.

"It was reported that a car and man were involved.

"Officers attended alongside the ambulance service and road closures were put in place.

"The man has been taken to hospital with what are believed to be serious injuries."

Police also confirmed that Bedford Road will be reopened shortly.

An eyewitness told Nub News in the aftermath of the collision: "There were police cars with their sirens going off and an ambulance. I hope everyone is ok."
