A talented rugby team from Hitchin Boys' School are set to play the game of their lives this week - and we want your writing.

HBS have won through to the RFU Schools Cup Final at Twickenham - the home of rugby.

Hitchin Nub News understands there will be art least 14 coaches packed with pupils from Grammar School Walk heading over to south west London on Wednesday morning.

Their 26-17 success over Sandbach of Cheshire at Sixways, the home of Worcester Warriors, saw them qualify for the prestigious final at rugby HQ.

"This is an incredible achievement," said delighted headteacher Fergal Moane in a letter to parents, seen by Hitchin Nub News.

"It is the first time in the school's long history that we have reached a national final in rugby.

"We are the only non-selective state school left in the two premier competitions, the cup and the vase."

Mr Moane added: "After our victory in Worcester on Saturday, I promised the team and their amazing coach, Mr Bajak, that we would take as many people as possible to support them in the final.

"Over the last couple of days, we have been working hard to assess demand from the students, book coaches and fundraise."

Mr Moane explained that the school has had more than 700 expressions of interest from students across the year groups who want to go to the match.

He also highlighted that HBS have had generous donations from the wider community to subsidise the costs of the coach transfer.

HBS are expected to take at least 14 coaches to transport student supporters to the fixture.
