Celebrate the magic of storytelling at the British Schools Museum for World Book Day 2024.

The historic Hitchin venue in the heart of our town is set to hold the eagerly-awaited event on Saturday, March 9.

Children will be encouraged to attend in their World Book Day costumes, and we would love to see as many literary creations as possible.

Organisers tell Hitchin Nub News: "We are so excited to be hosting the Hitchin Children's Book Festival once again this year in partnership with the brilliant local independent Hitchin children's bookshop Next Page Books.

"We will be opening our doors to children's authors for every possible literary taste: from Ian Eagleton's captivating picture books of a magical merman, to the fascinating non-fiction "Discoveries & Inventions" works of Frances Durkin.

"There is something to enchant every young bookworm.

"From AM Dasu's award winning tales of inspiration and fitting in for older children, to the irrepressible midnight adventures of superhero-in-training Kitty, 'Girl by day, Cat by Night'."

Each of the authors will be giving a talk on their works, followed by taking questions with the children and of course signing books.

At lunchtime children can choose between taking part in some book-themed crafts, or listening to some enchanting story telling from Imajica Theatre.

There is even face painting available (additional cost) for those that want to complete their look.  And of course, the play-café is open onsite as usual for hot drinks and delicious cakes.

Organisers add: "We are particularly pleased to announce that we are able to round off the event with a performance by the children of Stagecoach Performance choir again – their performance last year was a delight of book-themed songs."
