Cllr Ralph Muncer who represents Codicote and Kimpton on North Hertfordshire Council has launched a campaign to upgrade the A1(M) between Junction 6 (Welwyn) to Junction 8 (Hitchin and Stevenage).

An upgrade to this section of motorway, which would increase capacity by 50%, was first announced in December 2014 as part of the previous Government's £1.5 billion Road Investment Strategy. However, according to Cllr Muncer the scheme was delayed and subsequently cancelled.

Cllr Muncer, who also serves as the Leader of the Conservatives at North Hertfordshire Council, told Hitchin Nub News that:

"Every day, thousands of drivers who use the A1(M) face severe congestion and delays on this key artery which runs through the very heart of North Hertfordshire."

"This congestion is also felt on local roads such as the High Street in Codicote and the A602 in Hitchin, and with over 12,000 new homes proposed in close proximity to the motorway, the pressures on both the A1(M) and local roads are only set to get worse".

"That's why I've launched a campaign to revive previous proposals to increase capacity on this stretch of motorway by 50%, which if supported by the Government, will result in a continuous three-lane motorway between Hatfield and Letchworth meaning less congestion and delays for drivers on roads across North Herts."
