Covid update: Cases and deaths in Hitchin and north Herts continue to rise

Coronavirus cases continue to rise in Hitchin and north Herts following record deaths from the disease across the country.

Government data has confirmed that there were 155 new people with a confirmed positive test result reported today, Friday, January 8, with 770 over the last seven days - a rise of 217 (39.2 per cent).

The total number of people who have had a confirmed positive test result as of Friday was 3,738.

Deaths

Sadly, many people have died.

There were three new deaths within 28 days of a positive test for Coronavirus reported today, with 12 in the last seven days, an increase of eight (200 per cent).

Total number of people who have died within 28 days of testing positive for Coronavirus as of Thursday, January 7 was 110.

The news comes after the government said a further 1,325 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid as of Friday – the highest number of UK deaths reported on a single day since the outbreak began, bringing the UK total to 79,833.
