Hitchin welcomed the Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, over the weekend as part of a visit hosted by Hitchin's MP, Alistair Strathern.

The Cabinet minister joined Mr Strathern on the doorstep, speaking directly with families about their priorities for schools, childcare, and family support.

During conversations, residents reportedly raised issues while the Education Secretary highlighted the Government's work already underway.

These included - according to Mr Strathern's weekly email update -Expanded childcare provision. Free school meals and breakfast clubs in primary schools. Investment in family hubs to support parents and children

Mr Strathern said the visit was a valuable chance to hear from people in the community about what further steps they would like the Government to take to support education and family life in Hitchin and the wider area.

Bridget Phillipson is currently running to be the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.
