[BIt's the bane of every train journey to and from Hitchin railway station.[.B]

Loud, meaningless, banal, annoying train announcements on every carriage on every journey - not to mention when waiting for trains on both the north and south platforms at our town's station.

However, hope is at hand, thanks to plans being drawn up by the government that could force train operators in our area, such as Govia, to bin the noise and halt recorded messages played over loud speakers.

The Department of Transport is aiming to reduce the number of announcements played over platforms and in trains.

The department is set to work with passenger groups to determine which missives could disappear, thereby reducing pointless tannoy noise at Hitchin station and on trains to and from London and Cambridge.

..............

What do you think?

Is it a good idea? Which is the announcement that grinds your gears? What pointless recorded tannoy statement would you like to bin?

Or are there more pressing matters that need to be addressed first? Let us know what you think. Tweet us @HitchinNubNews or join in the conversation on our Facebook page here
