Tens of thousands of social media users have reported being logged out of their Facebook and Instagram accounts.

At around 3pm, today, Tuesday (March 5) a surge of reports of outages with Meta services were reported on online monitoring website Down Detector.

Users logged out of Facebook said that when they attempted to log back in saw they were met with an error: "Something went wrong. Please try again."

The social media apps and websites had been operating earlier on Tuesday, but since problems arose in the afternoon users have been unable to log back into their accounts.

Instagram users also reported their feed failed to refresh. The outage also extended to Meta's Messaging platform and Threads, its Twitter-lite app launched last year

Reports of outages have come from all over our area and across the UK.
