Film and TV boom brings £29m boost to Hertfordshire economy
By James Denselow 5th May 2026
Hertfordshire's film and television sector has delivered a record-breaking year, generating millions for the local economy and strengthening the county's reputation as a major UK filming hub.
New figures released by Hertfordshire County Council show productions brought an estimated £29.1 million of economic spend into the county during 2025/26 – more than double the previous year.
The growth has been driven in part by the work of the Hertfordshire Film Office, which helps coordinate filming activity, connect productions with local businesses, and promote the county as a filming destination.
Officials say the success reflects increased collaboration across the screen sector, with film and TV projects supporting jobs, local suppliers and services across Hertfordshire.
The county has long been a popular filming location thanks to its mix of studios, countryside and historic towns – with the latest figures underlining the continued strength of the industry.
The council said the Film Office has played a key role in streamlining processes for production companies while ensuring local communities and businesses benefit from filming activity.
As well as the direct economic boost, the sector also helps showcase Hertfordshire on screen, supporting tourism and wider investment in the area.
The figures come as the UK's screen industry continues to expand, with Hertfordshire positioning itself as a key player through partnerships, infrastructure and support for productions of all sizes.
