A former Hertfordshire police officer from Bishop's Stortford has gone on trial accused of historic sexual offences against a child and misconduct in public office.

Neil Shoebridge, 47, of Northolt Avenue, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on Monday 4 August. He is charged with three counts of gross indecency with a girl under the age of 16, alleged to have taken place between 27 December 2002 and 3 January 2003.

In addition to the sexual offence charges, Shoebridge also faces a charge of wilful neglect and misconduct while serving as a police officer during the same period.

He previously pleaded not guilty to all charges at a hearing on 30 April.

The trial is expected to last for a week.
