Hitchin residents are being invited to put their station on the national map by nominating it in this year's World Cup of Stations — a search for Britain's most life-changing railway station.

The competition, launched by the Rail Delivery Group and supported by train operators including Great Northern and Thameslink, is part of the Railway 200 celebrations, marking 200 years since the birth of the modern railway. It seeks to uncover stories of personal transformation, community pride, and historic significance linked to train stations across the country.

Local passengers now have the chance to champion Hitchin station by sharing their own experiences of how it has made a real difference — whether it's played a role in a life-changing journey, sparked a career, reunited loved ones, or simply formed the backdrop to everyday life.

Jenny Saunders, Customer Services Director for Govia Thameslink Railway, said: "Railways have shaped our lives and communities, connecting us for work and leisure. We want to hear from you about stations that have made a real impact and deserve to be recognised nationally."

Nominations are open until 22 August, and a panel will select 20 standout stories for a public vote in October to decide the ultimate winner.
