On 17 December, football freestyler Jay Rosa delivered surprise visits to Hitchin Boys' School in Hitchin and Samuel Whitbread Academy in Shefford, engaging students with his football skills while promoting mental health awareness. The visits were organised by Dan Gaze of Dan Gaze Support Services, which provides mentoring and wellbeing support to young people in schools.
At both schools, Rosa performed high-energy freestyle routines and led workshops focused on football techniques, interactive games, and skill development. Students participated in Q&A sessions with Rosa, discussing his professional career and his ongoing mental health initiatives, with Dan Gaze facilitating conversations on resilience, confidence, and accessing support.
During breaks and lunchtime, Rosa conducted additional freestyle demonstrations and coaching sessions, attracting large groups of students and fostering active participation.
Rosa's visit also highlighted his Football Freestyle Academy, based in Hertfordshire, which provides young people with structured training in football freestyle skills alongside education on teamwork, confidence, and mental wellbeing. The Academy is part of Rosa's wider commitment to using football as a tool to engage and inspire young people.
By bringing Rosa to the schools, Dan Gaze demonstrated how sport can build confidence, encourage teamwork, and support positive mental health. Students responded enthusiastically, leaving both schools inspired and motivated to practise the skills and reflect on the messages shared during the sessions.
