Have your say on Hitchin’s parks and green spaces as council launches public consultation
By James Denselow 7th Jul 2026
Residents are being encouraged to have their say on the future of Hitchin's parks and green spaces as North Herts Council launches a district-wide consultation.
The council wants to hear how people use local green spaces, what they value most and where improvements could be made.
The survey covers a range of topics, including cleanliness, safety, biodiversity, accessibility and how well parks and open spaces support activities such as walking, sport and relaxation.
As well as an online survey, paper copies will be available from council offices, leisure centres, libraries, Hitchin Town Hall and North Hertfordshire Museum.
Residents will also be able to speak directly to council officers at a series of outdoor pop-up events, including one in Bancroft Recreation Ground on Tuesday, August 25, from 2pm to 4pm.
Further opportunities to share views will be available at community forums across the district, including the Hitchin Community Forum on Tuesday, September 15.
The council is also inviting local businesses, community groups and environmental organisations to take part in the consultation.
Amy Allen, Executive Member for Environment at North Herts Council, said: "North Herts is fortunate to have a wide range of green spaces that support health, wellbeing, and biodiversity.
"This consultation is about understanding how people use these spaces and what matters most to them, so we can continue to improve and protect them for future generations.
"We'd encourage as many residents as possible to take part, whether you regularly visit our parks or not, to help shape the future of green spaces across the district."
The survey is anonymous and open to all residents. Responses must be submitted by Monday, September 28.
