Other areas may be talking about cutting Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), but Hertfordshire is delighted to be recruiting more PCSOs right now.

If you've worked in customer service, retail or hospitality roles, you've got great transferable skills.

PCSOs improve the quality of life for residents and make their area safer by proactively tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

The starting salary is £30,468, full time with shift allowance, rising to £36,630 based on length of service and performance-related pay.

There's shift work, some weekends and evenings to 11pm but also flexible working.

Initial training takes eight weeks and we're currently recruiting for our next cohort, with a start date this spring. Don't wait for the closing date, apply now as applications are reviewed weekly.

"We know that residents truly appreciate the difference PCSOs make in their communities, and we continue to recruit to this vital role in Hertfordshire," said Workforce Development Superintendent Chris Hay.

"With another training course starting this spring we are looking for enthusiastic people with strong powers of observation, communication, judgment and problem-solving. It's an exciting and rewarding career with flexibility on offer."

Watford PCSO Sadqain applied after seeing a Facebook post about PCSOs. He loves the role.

"It makes my day when I'm on patrol and someone says to me that they feel safe when I'm around," said Sadqain. "I would recommend becoming a PCSO to anyone who wants to make a difference to people's lives, help keep our streets safe and improve the community they work in."
