A Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with three further counts of rape, bringing a total of 44 charges against him.

David Carrick, 47, from Stevenage, has already been accused of offences against 11 victims including rape, coercive and controlling behaviour and sexual assault.

Carrick was initially arrested by Hertfordshire Constabulary in October 2021 and was immediately suspended.

Herts Police are now charging him with three additional rapes, relating to a new complainant - which are alleged to occurred in 2008 and 2009.

The other offences, which include 21 counts of rape, are alleged to have taken place between 2003 and 2020.

The Met said: "We recognise that these are extremely serious and concerning allegations. Referrals have been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct as the investigation has progressed."

Prior to Carrick's suspension, he was attached to the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command.

Carrick will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court relating to the new charges at 10am on Friday, (May 13).
