A high-ranking Hertfordshire council officer has been arrested for alleged bribery, the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) understands.

The officer and two others were arrested by a national law enforcement squad in March.

The LDRS has put its findings to various authorities including the National Crime Agency, a non-ministerial department in the Westminster government which investigates economic crime.

An NCA spokesperson said: "National Crime Agency officers arrested three people in Hertfordshire on March 2 on suspicion of bribery offences.

"They were interviewed and released on bail pending further enquiries.

"This is an ongoing investigation.

"We can neither confirm nor deny the identity of individuals at this stage in proceedings."
