An iconic Hitchin town centre property that has been left vacant for two years after closing during lockdown is now on sale.

The Sun Street site played host to Merryfields, which shut for good in 2021 after many years of trading, is now being marketed by Hitchin estate agent Norgans.

The site of the former newsagent, which also stocked a huge selection of ordnance survey maps and travel guides has been described as "a rare opportunity to acquire a mixed use town centre freehold".

The property at 16/17 Sun Street has a guide price of £725,000, with Brand Street estate agent Norgans adding the site "sits at the heart of Hitchin's conservation area and historic town centre."

The property is for sale by informal tender - sealed bids are invited by 12pm on Tuesday, June 13
