In the latest in our Hitchin Nub News series showcasing wonderfully evocative vintage black and white photographs here's a series of iconic shots courtesy of NHDC and North Herts Museum.

Today's 'Then and Now' is centred on our town's historic Bucklersbury situated off Market Place.

The evocative sepia postcard is taken from the museum's collection that documents many places in Hitchin around the turn of the 20th century.

The image was taken around 1906 looking south along Bucklersbury from Market Place, while the more recent photograph was taken by the renowned Hitchinite Danny Pearson.

Who knows, in 100 years perhaps Danny's iconic shots will be seen by Hitchin residents in 2121? Let's hope so!

PS Don't forget to visit the brilliant North Herts Museum in our town.

If you like old photos then you will have to take in their exhibition called Frozen In Time – Early Photographs of North Herts, which will run until 27 June.

The must-see exhibition will feature a series of 48 photographs of North Herts in Victorian and Edwardian times from the museum's collections.

The fascinating images of towns and villages in the district offer a snapshot into the daily lives of people who lived and worked there during those eras.
