The county of Hertfordshire has some weird and wacky names including Beech Bottom, Cockbush Avenue and Boggy Bottom - but surely nothing beats Wibbly Wobbly Lane on the edge of Hitchin.

Alas, as all good Hitchinites know, the name was lost when boring. faceless bureaucrats decided to dispense with such an iconic moniker - changing it to the far more prosaic Carters Lane.

However, change is afoot through a concerned Hitchin punter who is demanding the relevant authorities ensure the name reverts back to its original.

Joshua Levitas, who is known to all who have frequented the very excellent Victoria Pub, started the petition on Bank Holiday Monday.

Launching the campaign on change.org, Joshua asked plaintively: "Who decided it was a good idea to rename Wibbly Wobbly lane in the first place?

"I bet they're fun at parties

"I propose to whoever has the power to do so, that we rename Carters Lane, between the A505 and Pirton Road, to Wibbly Wobbly Lane effective immediately, as it once was, as it should be.

"Long live Wibbly Wobbly Lane."

The appeal is already nearing 250 digital signatures. Add your support here
