With the October half-term upon we're delighted to launch a new series of columns by Liz Tye and Julie Anderson at Next Page Books.

Hitchin's brilliant new addition on Queen Street recently opened and aims to be an inclusive children's bookshop that intends to celebrate and support neurodiversity in children and families.

So, read on for the first of many Hitchin Nub News pieces by long-time pals Liz Tye and Julie Anderson.

We're excited to start our new Book Column with Hitchin Nub News!

You may know we have recently opened our bookshop, Next Page Books in Hitchin.

We are a general independent children's bookshop, with a focus on inclusion and diversity.

We have books for all ages and a carefully selected section for grown-ups too!

Each week, we will shine the spotlight on a favourite new book in our shop, and we are delighted that our first choice is the wonderful 'Little Glow' from Owlet Press.

This book is quite simply, the most beautiful and inclusive book about all the festivals and celebrations of light which take place in the Autumn and Winter including Diwali, Hannukah, Ramadan, Chinese New Year, Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas.

However, this is not, like most books about this theme, written in a non-fiction, factual style.

Little Glow tells of the journey of a little candle who shares it's glow with families celebrating each of these special days. It's a rhyming delight for younger children, with descriptive language and beautiful illustrations from a Hertfordshire illustrator, Harry Woodgate.

It's a perfect read for anyone living in our multicultural town who wants to understand the many festivals which are celebrated. It also has a quiet message for any shy, introverted types, that you don't have to be loud and bright to be able to share your special 'glow' with others.

Finally, did you have a chance to check out our stunning window, which was beautifully decorated by Harry Woodgate.

The twinkly lights and colourful decorations stand out at this often dreary time of year, and we hope we can share some of our 'Little Glow' with you all.

Julie and Liz
