An Environment Agency spokesman told Hitchin Nub News that specialist officers "continue to support Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service" after the fire at a recycling centre in Hitchin last week.

Following a slew of comment on the recent fires from Hitchin's MP, local District Councillors and earlier today from the County Council the Environment Agency updated on their current efforts.

"We're checking for any effect on the environment, and have asked the operator to test fire water held in tanks on site before it is sent for disposal"

"Anyone who suspects pollution can report it to the Environment Agency's 24-hour incident hotline: 0800 807060."

Hertfordshire County Council said in a statement earlier today (Monday 11th) that "the Environment Agency are the primary regulator for this type of facility"
