Hitchin Fire Station has thanked the local community for turning out in force to support its annual Open Day – helping to raise a considerable sum for charity.

The family-friendly event drew big crowds, with residents of all ages enjoying a packed day of activities while meeting the team who help keep the town safe.

In a message of thanks, the fire station wrote on social media:

"A huge thank you to the people of Hitchin who came to support the Hitchin Fire Station Open Day. We raised a considerable amount of money for charity and this could not have been done without the continual support of local businesses and shops. It was a great day."

The Open Day also shone a spotlight on the work of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, giving visitors the chance to explore fire engines, learn more about fire safety, and see demonstrations first-hand.

With the money raised going to good causes, organisers say the success of the day shows once again the strength of community spirit in Hitchin.
